A Teacher’s Guide a Great Morning

It’s the most important part of the day. The way you begin your day determines a lot. Here are some suggestions to help make sure that each morning starts out stress free and full of energy.

Teachers have very busy mornings. Before the sun rises each day, you’re up and ready to tackle another day in class. Follow these three steps to create a morning routine that will have you feeling fresh and motivated to take on anything when the bell rings.

Step 1: Have your desk and materials ready before you leave for the day
Your great morning begins before you leave your classroom for the day. Write your daily instructions on the board and assemble the materials you’ll need for your activities. Print out a copy of your lesson plan and place it on your desk. It’s important to get anything together that you might need for the next day’s lessons to make your next morning a breeze.

Having everything assembled means that you won’t need to spend precious morning energy on putting activities and materials together. This strategy also helps a great deal if you need a substitute for any reason. If you aren’t able to make it to school or you’re running late, everything will be in place for someone who steps in to cover for you.

Step2: Find your Inspiration
A teacher’s inspiration can come from a variety of sources. It’s up to you to determine what inspires you to get moving in the morning. The ride to work in the morning is a great opportunity to start your day off on a positive note. A motivational audio book can start your day off well by putting you in a working mindset before you even step in the classroom. If you ride a bus or train to work you may find that a book or podcast that is based on educational topics can help you bring a bright mind to school each day.

Step 3: Every student enters the classroom correctly

Many teachers overlook this very important detail to making each morning (and class period) start of correctly. Take some time to practice and model the appropriate way to enter your classroom. Each student should enter respectfully and quietly, in the mindset for learning and behaving well. If students enter through the door running, talking loudly, or playing around, they are likely to continue that behavior during your lesson. Don’t be afraid to ask that they leave and enter again in an appropriate way. This small thing can really help set the tone for a positive day.

As a teacher, your mornings are precious and should be stress-free. Follow these simple steps and start bringing peace and inspiration to your morning routine.
